Avallon:
The St Lazare collegiate church of the XIIth century, the statue Vauban
sculptured by Bartholdi, the Clock tower served for making the watch during the wars
and to prevent of possible fire from 1467 till 1772.
Near Avallon:
The Holy Madeleine Basilica of Vézelay of the XIth and XIIth centuries, of Romanic
architecture with a Gothic choir, classified UNESCO world heritage, place of pilgrimage and point of
departure to Compostelle.
The Abbey of Fontenay, built in 1118 by St Bernard, consists in a strictly architecture
corresponding to the order of “Citeaux”.
The Beaune Hospices of 1443 have blazing Gothic architecture, reflect of the links
between the Burgundy and Flanders.
The feudal Castle of Bazoches, built in the XIIth century, presents a trapezoid architecture
constituted by 4 towers and by a donjon surrounding an inner courtyard.
The Castle of Tanlay, luxurious of the XVIIth century, famous for the gallery in “trompe
l’oeil”and for the frescoes of the League tower.
The Cave of Arcy sur Cure is the second place to the world decorated with paintings
of -33 000 years.
The Museum of the wine of Burgundy in Beaune, implanted in the magnificent hotel of
the Burgundy Dukes, is dedicated to the vineyard and to the wine from the antiquity to our days.
